Cutlass Topper

A four-model range of 2.13m (7ft), 2.43m (8ft), 2.74m (9ft) and a 2.74m (9ft) HVO heavy-duty shaft driven toppers are designed to meet the demands of high-speed topping. The high tip speed of the blades ensures that the CUTLASS is in total control. Whether you are cutting set-aside or rough vegetation up to 3.5cm, in diameter, the CUTLASS will take it in its stride. When working in short grass in large paddocks, a superb finish can be achieved. Made of the highest quality materials, these machines are designed to withstand the rigours of long working days.

The shaft driven transmission line is assembled with a centrally positioned splitter gearbox with protection from a shearbolt coupling on the power take off shaft. Each side of the splitter gearbox is a splined shaft leading into a rubber drive safety coupling and a second splined shaft attaches to the rotor gearbox. The two rotor gearboxes contra rotate and are timed at 90 degrees to each other.

The hub, double leaf spring blade carrier and swinging tip blades will therefore discharge grass through the centre of the machine giving an excellent distribution. There is an excellent overlap of the blades, which eliminates the central strip of uncut grass left by many belt driven toppers. The underneath of the topper body is clear from any form of ducting, which allows the cut grass to stay airborne until discharged. A floating headstock by means of a wire cable and adjustable side skids (from 25mm to 150mm) give a smooth operation in the most arduous of conditions. Stone guards and additional safety features are fitted to ensure the machine meets with the latest legislation. Brackets, which allow the machine to be offset to one side by 30cm, are available as an option. The ultimate is the CUTLASS 9 HVO, which has a hydraulically variable offset, which can be operated through a spool valve from the tractor driver's seat. Castor wheels are also available for those customers working in fine turf areas such as racecourses, where the topper may be required to be front-mounted.
